Your Portrait Session Guide
Whether you're celebrating a birthday, graduating, documenting your senior year, or simply looking to capture beautiful family portraits or lifestyle photos, this guide will help you feel confident and prepared for your shoot.
As a Denver Colorado portrait female photographer, my goal is to create a relaxed and joyful experience while capturing images that feel authentic, stylish, and full of personality.

What to Wear for Your Portrait Session
1. Coordinate, Don’t Match
For family portraits or group shots, choose a color palette of 2–3 complementary tones rather than matching outfits. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, or pastels work beautifully in Denver’s natural light and scenic backdrops.
2. For Individuals (Birthday, Senior, Graduation)
Choose outfits that reflect your personality but photograph well. Consider textures like denim, knits, or lace — and avoid busy logos or neon colors.
You’re welcome to bring 2–3 outfit changes — casual, dressy, and one that feels uniquely you (birthday crown? graduation sash? Bring it!).
Color Theory Tips
Warm skin tones look great in earthy colors like olive, mustard, rust, cream, and burgundy.
Cool skin tones are complemented by jewel tones like sapphire, emerald, plum, and soft blues.
For fall shoots, try camel, forest green, and maroon.
For spring or birthday shoots, pastels like lavender, blush, mint, and ivory are stunning.
As your go-to Denver portrait photographer, I can help you pick colors that flatter you and complement the location.

Hair & Makeup Tips
1. Keep it Clean + Enhanced
Even if you don’t usually wear makeup, a little extra polish for the camera helps. Think matte foundation, defined brows, and neutral lip color. Avoid products with heavy shimmer or SPF that reflect light.
2. Pro Hair & Makeup
For birthdays, graduation photos, or senior sessions, I always recommend professional hair and makeup. It gives a boost of confidence and ensures your look lasts throughout the shoot.
